BOTOX

BOTOX® Cosmetic was developed from a purified protein, which smooths facial lines by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic can be injected into several areas: the space between the eyebrows, the horizontal lines of the forehead and at crow's feet. BOTOX® Cosmetic can also be used on the neck.  Patients may feel some discomfort during the injection, but there is usually no discomfort felt during the procedure. Most patients begin to see results 7-10 days after treatment.

Although BOTOX® Cosmetic is considered safe, some minor problems may arise: for example, swelling at the injection site, local bleeding, infections, and/or drooping eyelids. An advantage of obtaining BOTOX® Cosmetic with Dr. Horta-Santini is his his knowledge of facial anatomy due to his training as an ophthalmologist; plus, he can handle complications on his own. By not having to refer patients to another specialist, the extent of side effects is greatly reduced.

The results of cosmetic treatment with BOTOX® are not permanent.  Most patients return to Dr. Horta-Santini within four to six months for BOTOX® Cosmetic replication to maintain a youthful appearance. There are some indications that demonstrate that over the long run, retreatment of muscles relaxed with BOTOX® Cosmetic require less product to achieve the same effect.
