MEET DR. HORTA-SANTINI

Dr. Juan Horta-Santini is a board-certified ophthalmologist whose professional interests include cataract surgery, dry eyes, laser eye surgery and ocular allergies. His work on eye care has been published widely in peer-reviewed medical journals and presented in ophthalmology conferences.

Dr. Horta-Santini was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Early in his career, he developed an expertise in international medicine by participating in medical missions and clinical rotations in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Brasil, Puerto Rico and France. These experiences allowed him to help people from different backgrounds and socioeconomic levels. While on a clinical rotation, he chose to establish a practice in Queens, one of the most diverse boroughs in the nation.

He received a scholarship to attend the prestigious Washington University in St. Louis, where he majored in Biology and minored in French. He later returned to the University of Puerto Rico, where we obtained his medical degree and received his ophthalmology residency training. During his final year of residency, he was chosen to be chief resident. Later, he pursued a fellowship in glaucoma at Tufts/New England Eye Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston, both considered some of the best ophthalmology centers in the world. In Boston, he had the opportunity to train with knowledgeable doctors and mentors, specifically, Dr. Cynthia Mattox, who was at that time the president of the American Glaucoma Society, and Dr. Bradford Shingleton, who was the president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Juan Horta-Santini loves his job and is passionate about his patients’ vision. He brings knowledge, charisma, and delicate touch to each encounter, creating a customizable plan for his patients.
